World's Oldest Rodeo
July 4, 1888 marked the birthdate of the professional rodeo in Prescott when a group of local merchants and professional businessmen organized the first “cowboy tournament.” They offered a cash prize, Juan Leivas became the first winner and the rodeo was born. The art of rodeo soon became a world-wide phenomenon.
