Discover the rich history of Fort Whipple, one of Arizona’s most significant military sites. Originally established as a U.S. Army post during the Indian Wars, Fort Whipple later became one of the nation’s largest military hospitals for treating respiratory illnesses and today continues its legacy as the Bob Stump Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Housed in the restored 1909 military officer’s quarters, the Fort Whipple Museum features exhibits on frontier military life, Buffalo Soldiers, military medicine, historic weapons, maps, photographs, and personal memoirs. Visitors can explore the fort’s evolution from a frontier outpost to a pioneering medical facility while experiencing the architecture and stories that shaped Arizona’s military history.
